A solo creator wanted to ship a story-driven obby with progression, cutscenes, and unlockable abilities — closer to a metroidvania than a typical obby.
Designed a "stage graph" — non-linear progression where new abilities unlock backtracking. Wrote a checkpoint + savefile system that survives a mid-stage server restart.
Surprised the obby genre. Average session: 18 minutes. Sequel currently in scoping.

7 unlockable movement abilities (double-jump, wall-run, dash, etc.). Each rewires what previous stages can do.
Custom DataStore wrapper with conflict resolution. Players resume exactly where they left off, even mid-cutscene.
